There are a panoply of parental fears. We worry about their grades, try to protect them from experimenting with alcohol and drugs. We make them apply sunblock and try to monitor every aspect of their health… or so I thought.
Last weekend my middle child was lucky enough to go to Coachella. He had VIP, all-access passes. He was thrilled, and I thrilled for him. Until he got home with his ears ringing. His passes allowed him to listen to the concerts up close…. about a yard from the speakers. We went to an ear, nose and throat doctor who told us that my 17 year-old had damaged his ears. Thankfully his hearing impairment isn’t permanent but I hope that the lesson is. Ear plugs, we should send our children off to concerts with ear plugs. So Suzy Says.
